Dogster

The Situation

Dogster is a flourishing community of pet lovers and has been a great example of social networking success. Communities like this have a lot of content and plenty of room to get ranked for relevant keywords. Sometimes the trick is to understand all of the different kinds of search opportunities that present themselves within a content rich community.

How we thought about it

Search traffic can be a valuable way to bring participants and new users into a community. People rarely search for social networks to join however they do search for information and things they are interested in. When determining a search strategy for a community, the key is to identify the different types of resources and information within that could be valuable to a target audience. In this case, we were looking for dog passionate people who would be searching for resources related to their pets. Our role here was to provide the on-page optimization recommendations and consult on exactly how the search strategy would capture new users. Optimizing Dogster for search and ensuring that its resources were showing up in the results was paramount to pulling new participants in via search.

Results

Our work resulted in a long-term setup and strategy that would continue to drive new users to Dogster.
