CrazyEgg
Background
CrazyEgg is a simple web application that lets people track actual clicks on a website. We built CrazyEgg out of a fundamental need we saw in the marketplace and because we wanted to solve a problem in the simplest way possible. CrazyEgg now has over 100,000 users and is still helping people improve their businesses.
What we ended up doing
CrazyEgg is something we built from scratch and from the very beginning we felt that the best products can gain traction with little or no marketing at all. We kept this in mind the entire time we were developing CrazyEgg and the end result was a product that virtually “sold itself” online through all of the word of mouth and advocacy it generated. We launched CrazyEgg in August of 2006 and it now has over 25,000 active users and 100,000 signups. We feel that this product reflects our ability to create products that solve problems in simple ways yet still grow with market demands and adoption.
What we learned
This project taught us how products truly generate buzz and what it takes to get people using them. We saw first-hand how everything from actual functionality to features and design can influence adoption and grow userbase. We also established some core expertise in the analytics space and understanding what metrics truly matter to business.
